GULF COAST TRIP TO BILOXI MISSISSIPPI

Marie and I flew out to Biloxi from Houston courtesy of Beau Rivage Casino which is an M-Life property.  The plane was full of gamblers for the barely one hour flight.  One of the good things  about this trip was that after we checked our bags at the airport, we never touched them again until we left Biloxi for Houston on the return trip.  On the plane over, we played the money game.  That is, those who wanted to play wrote their seat numbers on their dollar bills, fives, tens and twenties.  The stewards collected them in four bags and drew to see who won a bag of money.  The closest we came was when Marie’s seat mate Pam won the bag of twenties for $480.00.  Pam was traveling with her mother Vicky.

After our complimentary cocktails and the money game, we were preparing to land.  We actually flew into Gulfport, Ms. and rode a shuttle bus for a thirty minute ride to Biloxi.  Check in was painless and quick.  The hotel delivered our bags to our room, which was very nice,  and we didn’t have to be there when they were delivered so we immediately went to the casino.

Marie likes to case the casino to see what to play even though nine times out of ten she will play Davinci Diamonds.  I played close to the first machine I came to which was a Cash Express Gold Class Slot.  People were hitting all around me, but I didn’t hit anything.  So I moved on to a penny Double Triple Diamond machine and after I pushed the button twice I hit for $300.00.  For those of you with sensitive ears, you might want to turn the sound down, not because I used a bad word, but because my Texas accent is hard to listen to.  And I know I need to work on my camera skills.  As in this video, I usually get my phone ready to record in case I hit something and then the cocktail waitress comes along and I place my order.  Then she comes back with my drink and I have to juggle my phone and $1.00 tip and try to pick up my drink without dropping my phone.  Of course I am talking all the way through and trying to figure out how much I won and as you can hear, math was not a good subject for me in school.  I apologize for the accent but it is what it is.

I tried to get on the Mississippi Stud poker table but it was full when I went by it the first time and empty the next time I went by.  Empty is not good, I prefer a full table.  Marie went upstairs to get ready for bed and I went up about thirty minutes after her.  Since we didn’t get to the hotel until about 7:00 P.M. and had gotten up early, we were both ready for bed.

We slept in and then went downstairs for breakfast at the Terrace Cafe’.  The Beau Rivage (or the Beau as the locals call it) has a very nice cafe’ with great food and is open 24 hours a day.  A limited breakfast menu is available after 11:30a.m. and a full breakfast menu before that.  It even has gluten free pancakes, the portions are huge and they have the best grits you’ll ever eat.

After breakfast we took the casino hopper shuttle to Harrah’s so we could earn some Total Rewards tier credits.  Harrah’s has a very small casino and we managed to stay long enought to play a little poker and slots.  Our sister Cheryl and her husband Kerry were coming in from Atlanta today for two nights at the Golden Nugget and we were waiting to hear that they had made it.  It had been nearly a year since we had seen them so we were anxious to catch up.

After they got settled and had lunch, we all headed to the casino.  I had been to the Golden Nugget once before in May and had good luck on Ultra Spin and made my way to it.  There are only four of these machines in the Golden Nugget in Biloxi but none of the four were cooperating with me this time.  I went to the Buffalo Stampede slots where there was one seat available and had some luck.  These machines pay better when the whole row of them are being played.  One gentleman cashed out over $1,000.  After he left I moved to his machine, but it was through by then.

Marie and Cheryl were playing pennies in another part of the casino.  Kerry was getting their things settled in the room.  When we got ready to eat, we decided to to to Lillie’s in the casino for Asian.  It is very good and tasted very fresh.  The Golden Nugget properities in Las Vegas, Lake Charles, La, and Biloxi are owned by Tilman Fertitta, along with onsite restaurants.  There are Mexican, Asian,  Steakhouse, and seafood among others so it’s pretty much self contained.  The resort in Lake Charles is the newest Fertitta property.  The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable.  Although I didn’t see Cheryl and Kerry’s room, they said it was nice.  The days are so short in the casino and before we knew it, it was time to head back to the Beau for more fun.  We played for a while and decided to take advantage of the good beds.  Even though the hotel did not offer Bravo, we were more interested in sleeping than television.

Kerry played golf and dropped Cheryl at the Beau.  She and Marie had breakfast and I slept until 11:30.  When I came down I found a coffee shop with yogurt parfaits and got a coffee and yogurt to go.   I found Cheryl at the video poker machines.  We played next to each other for a while but neither of us did much good except to not lose much money.  At least we got to spend some time together.  After Kerry got back and played at the Beau for awhile, we left for the Golden Nugget for their seafood extravaganza.  The crab legs were delicious, but none of us thought the other entrees were very good.  The fried oysters tasted not so fresh, the carving station sirloin was tough and there was not a lot of variety.  The buffet at the Beau is much larger but the quality is about the same.  It’s hard to compare any buffet to those in Las Vegas and I think for that reason we don’t particularly care for buffets except when in Vegas.  And then if it’s not the Wynn, Caesar’s or Cosmopolitan, forget about it.

After dinner, I played the Buffalo Stampede slots again and hit some small pots.  The gentleman next to me had a hand pay for $2400.  I hope next time it will be my turn.  Marie and I said our goodbyes and hitched a ride with Kerry back to the Beau.  Marie wanted to go to bed so I told her I wanted to play for thirty minutes on a table game I had heard about and every time I walked by, there were no empty seats.  It was the 21 + 3 blackjack table and this time there was one seat in the middle of the table.  I never know where is the best place to sit because I am afraid  I will be the person who messes up the rest of the table by taking a hit when I shouldn’t or doesn’t take a hit.  Anyway, I decided to try it because this table combines blackjack with three card poker.  It was too much fun.  First of all, the other players were really fun and we were quite loud.  There were 3 people to the left of me and 2 on my right.  The couple on my right helped me a lot along with the dealer.  I looked to my right and the gentleman of the couple and I each got the three card bonus for $45 and he gave me the fist bump.  It was then that I noticed that he and I both had on the same Michael Kors watch- the gold Camille covered in crystals and baguettes.  I forgot to take a picture of his watch, but here is a picture of mine.

I bought in for $200 and cashed out $575.  I finally went to bed at 2:30.  We had to be downstairs the next day at noon to leave for the airport.  We had such a good time.  We talked to some very nice people- both on the plane and at the casinos.  We will definately be ready for another trip to Biloxi soon, that is if the Beau sends for us again.  In August we head for Tunica, Ms. which is about an eight hour drive from Marie’s.  And then in September we will take a cruise out of Galveston to Mexico and Central America.  Stay tuned.
